It was then that the Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA) was formed. But at its meeting held in Kumasi Ghana in 2008 it was decided by the membership of the association that its name be changed from FAPRA to APRA. The objectives of the association among others include setting standards for the practice of Public Relations in Africa to encourage the teaching of Public Relations in African tertiary institutions and to encourage the establishment of national and sub-regional Public Relations associations in Africa with a view to promoting the practice of public relations on the continent. Some criticize Iowa’s contract with Texas PR giant

The decision by the Iowa Department of Economic Development has sparked criticism by some Republicans who claim a number of Iowa companies could effectively promote the state. “The idea that a department tasked with growing Iowa’s economy would outsource their public relations efforts is ludicrous” said Tim Albrecht a spokesman for the American Futures Fund an Iowa conservative advocacy group. State officials defended their decision saying the move is more complex than critics argue and ultimately will help effectively promote Iowa. The controversy began when the Department of Economic Development requested bids for its marketing effort.
