Chinese aren’t going to make Olympic-sized issues go away with a…
USA Today – Apr 2, 2008
And, of course, it promises to be a grand party when the Chinese trot the torch through Tibet and up Mt. Four months before the Olympics, the country is desperately trying claw its way out of a public relations nightmare that threatens to undermine an Olympics that was supposed to celebrate China as an athletic and economic superpower. Instead of excitement over swimming events in the spectacular water cube venue, the Chinese are hearing condemnations over a bloody crackdown in Tibet. Those cries have even drowned out any recent praise for the beauty of the Bird’s Nest stadium and other Olympic sites. They’ve spent billions for their moment in the sun, only to see the opening act turned into a lengthy examination of everything that is wrong with the country. For all the billions, though, you might think they would have hired a public relations agency that could do better than brand the Dalai Lama as a “wolf in monk’s robes” and his followers the “scum of Buddhism.

Civil Fights: Lies begging to be exposed
Jerusalem Post – Apr 2, 2008
2, 2008EVELYN GORDON , THE JERUSALEM POST Many factors contribute to Israel’s perennially poor public relations, most of them stemming from its own incompetence. Telegraph.co.uk – Apr 2, 2008
But they were not alone, PR firms representing Sean Penn, Mike Myers and Jake Gyllenhaal also registered their dismay at plans to air the video. Ledger, 28, died in his Manhattan apartment last week. The cause of his death is still pending the outcome of toxicology tests. Police have said several prescription drugs – but nothing illegal – were found in the Manhattan apartment where the “Brokeback Mountain” actor’s body was found. The video acquired by ET was reportedly taken two years ago at a party at the Chateau Marmont Hotel… “This is not journalism, it is sensationalism. It is a shameful exploitation of the lowest kind, to a talented and gentle soul, undeserving of such treatment. ” Stars, studio executives and PR firms all called “ET” to register protests, said Kelly Bush, CEO of ID. The star-studded roster of ID alone includes Robin Williams, Sean Penn, Tobey Maguire, Mike Myers, Jennifer Hudson, Katie Holmes, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ledger’s “Brokeback” co-star Jake Gyllenhaal. No boycott was threatened, Bush said. But when a television show that needs celebrities like living things need oxygen hears from so many powerful sources, a threat probably wasn’t necessary. Not a spoken one, anyway.
